There is often some confusion surrounding the term, "Search Engine Optimization" or SEO because there are really two things at work with regard to getting your site a good position in the search engines.

Professional SEO services

For starters we are NOT and SEO company. That is a marketing service not a web design service, although there are obvious connections.  As a web developer we endeavour to create your site from the start with search engines in mind.  We do submit your site to a number of engines for you, however, we do not do the extensive work necessary to provide you with top placement.  That is where a professional SEO company takes over.

First piece of advice we offer is be careful with SEO companies that say they can promise you Number 1 on all search engines...they can't.  For one thing it is a constantly moving target that everyone is aiming at at once. These companies cannot control what search engines do with their data.  A more realistic promise is that they will get your site listed on page one or two most of the time for certain key words.  This is a good target but not necessarily a cheap goal to attain. Expect to pay a reputable company anywhere between $300 and $3,000 per month to stay there.  We happily work with your SEO Company to make changes they feel are necessary to assist them promote your web page. Unless they specify some extensive modifications, there is typically no additional charge from us. We want our customers to succeed.

You can learn to do what they do if you have the time to invest. Lots of time! This is why it costs as much as it does. Placement in Google is premium territory, more important than any single engine at this point. Google ranks sites based on several general things, the most important probably being how many OTHER web sites link to you. This is obviously not anything your webmaster can do for you because it really has nothing directly to do with the design of your site. Google considers these links to your site as a "vote" for you, saying that the referring site considers your site valuable enough to deserve the link they gave you. Getting others to link to you is time consuming. There are some tricks and when you buy a site from us we can send you a manual to help.  

How long your domain has been registered is also important. If your site is new, Google will push it down until it has a reputation worthy of their consideration. New sites come and go all the time and get a low rank at the outset. This is something only time can overcome.

Buy AdWords from Google and perhaps a few other major engines. This is the only sure way to start getting noticed immediately. You can create an account or for a modest fee we will work with you to set up your AdWord account and monitor it for a couple of months in order to fine tune your keyword results. After that let it run on autopilot for awhile to see your results.  We charge $25 per month for this service for the first three months. Remember that marketing your web site is as important as building it. Unlike in the movie "Field of Dreams" just building it will not guarantee they will come.

Make sure your web address is on everything...your vehicles, business cards, fliers, letter head, yellow page ads, classified, etc. In short if you print it or drive it, letter it !

Consider ads in some trade magazines or local classified to get your name and URL out there.  Post a service ad in Craig's List and other free classifieds etc. Anything to be able to post your web site.

You are competing for position with millions of web sites. It is hard work that can pay off in a lot of new business.
